Message from Veolia/NICE CEO

On the path to improving NICE

Dear Passengers,

As we enter our second year of service, we have focused on ways to enhance and improve our systems to better serve our riders. We are grateful for additional funding through the State and the acceptance of the MetroCard increase which will help us add additional service where our riders need it most.

Additional funding will allow us to add more service on routes that are currently overcrowded or require additional frequency.  We must keep in mind that this process will be done over time and will be done with system efficiency as a main goal. Over the next few quarters, in addition to adding buses, routes will continue to be engineered to allow for better connections and faster commute times.

Though we are not satisfied, we have begun to make inroads into improving our on time performance on some routes. With a system as large and complex as Nassau County, this will be a continuing effort. On time performance improvement will continue to be one of our main focuses through-out this year.

Our paratransit division, ABLE-RIDE, has also seen some improvement in on time performance. The additional tools such as Mobile Data Terminals for each Bus and the additional capacity in the form of Supper Shuttle Vans, have allowed us to improve overall, on-time performance. We still have a long way to go, especially in the busy afternoon-evening commutes but we see a trend of slow and steady improvement in this vital service.

Summer will see us bring back Jones Beach Service beginning with the May Airshow which kicks off the season. We will serve the Beach during the summer months and, of course, the popular concert series. Jones Beach service has been such as success, we’ll also be adding in the N87, Service from Hicksville to Jones Beach.

This past winter we were happy to take delivery of 45 new buses. They are currently all in service, replacing some of our oldest buses that needed to be retired. Over the next few years, we will continue to add new buses, this will help us keep our maintenance costs down and provide a much more reliable service to all of you.

Our Operators, Mechanics and Administrative Personnel are all committed to delivering the very best for the residents of Nassau County.

Sincerely,

Mike Setzer
